The two-day meeting was held at the historic Mostowski Palace, the headquarters of the Warsaw Metropolitan Police, and featured a range of presentations from public institutions, academic experts, and research-driven organisations.
A Spotlight on Digital Transformation
Digital transformation is a key priority for EU Member States, especially in the field of law enforcement. It drives innovation, boosts operational efficiency, and strengthens cross-border cooperation. Recognising its strategic importance, the Warsaw meeting featured a dedicated workshop on this topic.
The session aimed to explore current strategies, share challenges and best practices, and identify common barriers and opportunities. The ultimate goal: to support the development of more effective, resilient, and future-ready policing across Europe.
The session was introduced by Igor Vučko, who presented examples of related projects from the Slovenian Police, and included practical insights from the Polish research institute NASK.
As highlighted by Patrick Padding, ENLETS Core Group Leader, “Digital Transformation is not only central to internal processes and frontline policing, but also to how we serve our citizens. There is a clear urgency to exchange ideas and good practices in this area, and ENLETS will continue to place digital transformation high on the agenda.”
Showcasing Innovation
The agenda also featured cutting-edge technological developments from Polish and European institutions and partners:
- Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) operations for flood response, presented by the Polish State Fire Service
- SARUAV, a system for detecting missing persons in aerial imagery
- Foresight studies on drones in crisis management from CBK PAN and the COLLARIS Network
- Environmentally friendly solutions in public procurement from the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR)
- Innovative tools in public safety, including the SkanDRON laser detection system and the KOBAN project on future capabilities in community policing
Looking Ahead: EU Strategy and Cooperation
Another significant theme was the European Commission’s new Preparedness Union Strategy and the ProtectEU Communication, both of which signal a shift towards a more resilient and better-equipped European Union. The discussions made it clear that ENLETS has a vital role to play in supporting the implementation of these strategies across Member States.
Continuing the Momentum
The Warsaw NCP Meeting reinforced ENLETS’ role as a bridge between policy, technology, and practice. With strong engagement from national representatives, and the coordination support of the PPHS (Polish Platform for Homeland Security) as ENLETS Secretariat, the event provided a valuable platform for fostering connections and building momentum around shared priorities.
As we move forward, ENLETS will continue to integrate Digital Transformation, preparedness policies, and cross-border cooperation into its strategic agenda — with the common goal of creating a safer, more connected Europe.
