ENLETS Meeting in Prague Strengthens Cross-Border Communication Efforts

Members of the ENLETS Operational Centres Technology Interest Group (OC TIG) met in Prague on 23–25 September, hosted by the Police Presidium of the Czech Republic, to advance cooperation on cross-border communication. The discussions centred on the “Golden Hour” – the critical period following an incident when rapid, coordinated response can save lives – and highlighted the urgent need for shared tools and strategies to improve international collaboration.

The meeting underlined that technology alone will not resolve communication challenges. Participants stressed the importance of developing a unified approach to ensure interoperability and operational effectiveness across borders. Alongside this, members received updates on European Commission initiatives aimed at building a European Mission Critical Communication System, a long-term effort to enhance resilience and coordination at the EU level.

Dialogue was a recurring theme throughout the sessions. Delegates shared practical experiences, discussed ongoing challenges, and explored potential solutions. A particular focus was placed on fostering closer ties between neighbouring countries and improving mechanisms for efficient information exchange. Strengthening these regional links will be among the group’s top priorities in the coming months.

The meeting also marked an important leadership transition within ENLETS. After eight years of dedicated service, Jacques van Wersch is retiring from his role as EU Project Manager and Leader of the OC TIG. His commitment to innovation and tireless efforts in strengthening European law enforcement collaboration have left a lasting impact. Leadership of the group now passes to Pavel Bouberle of the Police of the Czech Republic, who will continue building on these strong foundations and bring new energy to the role.

The Prague meeting reaffirmed ENLETS’ role as an important platform for law enforcement cooperation, bringing together practitioners from across Europe to address operational needs and drive forward the development of secure, reliable communication systems.
