Reflecting on the ENLETS Cooperation with the EU Council Presidency

06.02.2025

A regular activity within the ENLETS community is cooperating closely with the country with the Presidency of the European Council.

This period is no different, which is why our Core Group leader visited Poland last week to engage with members of the Polish Police of the National Headquarters who are currently supporting the Polish Presidency.

In April, the Polish Presidency will host a National Contact Point meeting. On request, this meeting will include the topic of Digital Transformation. Poland plans to accelerate its transition to a digital environment that streamlines daily activities and boosts productivity to improve capacity. ENLETS is well-positioned to facilitate a significant exchange to enhance Poland’s endeavours.

During ENLETS 3.0, the various TIGs are working towards topics that impact public safety, including how Operational Centres can respond to events and crises, especially with incidents connected to cross-border exchanges. The Public Order group and the Counter Unmanned Aircraft Systems team will be dealing with matters concerning large gatherings of people when there is an imminent danger of drone interference, one that is possibly carrying a dangerous substance.

Ideally, The TIGs plan to stitch ENLETS actions together through multiple scenarios that test cooperation and provide a chance to share knowledge and identify needs for future innovations. Therefore, collaboration with our Polish colleagues is timely and links well with upcoming plans. We’re happy to be cooperating and look forward to forthcoming engagements.

Another part of last week’s delegation was introducing the KOBAN project, which is also coordinated by the  ENLETS Core Group Leader, representing the National Police of the Netherlands. KOBAN addresses topics concerning community policing and how the police can work with local stakeholders to enhance the response to pertinent issues. The Polish Police Provincial headquarters in Radom is a beneficiary of the KOBAN project, so last week, it provided space to visit the local partners and, discuss upcoming actions and talk through the expected efforts which will shape this 3-year EU-funded Horizon initiative.

If you’re working in any of the areas mentioned and want to engage in the upcoming actions, please consider joining the ENLETS community to remain informed.
